Australia doubles fines for social media platforms but experts warn enforcement is key
The Australian government announced new legislation to double fines to A$99 million for platforms breaching the social media ban for minors. eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant will also receive stronger information-gathering powers under the new laws. Experts warn, however, that higher penalties will have little effect unless authorities actively hold tech giants accountable for the content they carry.
