"Shame Will Be With Me Forever" — Mothers of Children With Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Eight-year-old Staś has the developmental level of a three-year-old, and two-year-old Zosia's diagnosis was suspected by a doctor at first glance — both children suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) because their mothers drank during pregnancy. Katarzyna, one of the mothers, says: "Shame will be with me for the rest of my life, and I grieve that my child pays for my sins." FAS causes permanent developmental damage that cannot be reversed.
