Court rules ZUS must consider grandchildren's hardship when writing off inherited debts
A Polish Regional Administrative Court (WSA) has ruled that ZUS (the Social Insurance Institution) must take into account the age, health and financial situation of people applying to have inherited social contribution debts written off. The court returned the case for reconsideration, challenging the practice of automatically pursuing grandchildren for debts owed by their grandparents. Such inherited debts can significantly burden heirs throughout their adult lives.
