'Mārama' – revenge horror inspired by director's Māori ancestors
Writer-director Taratoa Stappard made "Mārama," a Victorian-era horror-revenge film inspired by his Māori female ancestors, who used dancing and tattoos as acts of resistance against colonisation. The film is now available on VOD through Dark Sky Films and Watermelon Pictures. Stappard describes his ancestors as "rebellious" storytellers who risked everything during an oppressive era.
