One billion more people exposed to extreme heat stress since the 1970s
A new report reveals that the share of the world's population facing at least one day of extreme heat stress per year has risen from 16% to 22% since the 1970s, equivalent to roughly one billion additional people. The UK is currently experiencing a heatwave as the findings were published. Scientists warn that the danger is intensifying and attribute the trend to climate change.
